  • Brian Horton, son of Walter and Brenda Horton of Clearwater and a senior at Clearwater High School, has won a Frances Larkin McCommon scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. Horton won the $10,000 scholarship through the International Competition for Student Artists sponsored by the college.

More than 500 students representing 47 states and 30 countries, including Bangladesh, Holland and Lebanon, sent in up to eight artworks each for judging by a panel of international artists who teach at the college.

  • Jeni Shepardson, daughter of L.R. and Loell R. Shepardson of Clearwater and a senior in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at St. Petersburg High School, has been named a semifinalist in the 1991 Presidential Scholars Program.

Semifinalists were selected from more than 2.5-million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 1991. They were selected on the basis of their performance on either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Board or the American College Testing Program (ACT) and on their essays, self-assessments, description of activities, school recommendations and school transcripts.

Note: 2022 Frances Larkin McCommon Scholarship is very competitive and will be awarded to the earliest qualifiers. The scholarship is based on merit so eligible applicants are often asked to provide additional materials as part of their application for admission. you must demonstrate superior artistic achievement to be among the top 3% of the applicant pool.

Frances Larkin McCommon scholarship SCAD for international students

U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens can apply for federal aid by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. To designate SCAD as your school on the FAFSA, use the SCAD Federal School Code: 015022. This code allows a school to calculate your eligibility for federal financial aid.

The May and Paul Poetter Full Tuition Scholarship is awarded annually to both international students, U.S. Permanent residents, and  US citizens by the Savannah College of Art and Design. How do I get a scholarship to SCAD?

Scholarships may be available to currently enrolled SCAD students based on academic achievement, financial need, or a combination of the two. To be eligible, students must be on schedule to complete a minimum of 45 undergraduate hours or 15 graduate hours at SCAD by the end of the spring quarter. The scholarship application for current students is available online during  April only. Applicants are automatically considered for all applicable scholarships.

SCAD scholarship offers for undergraduate students vary according to whether students reside in SCAD housing. Current students who have been accepted to study on an off-campus program may apply to receive travel scholarships. These scholarships are administered through the office of financial aid. SCAD Endowed scholarship for Black students

Initially endowed by SCAD in June 2020, these scholarships are awarded annually to 12 undergraduates (three incoming freshmen, three sophomores, three juniors, three seniors) and three graduate students who are African-American. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (high school GPA of 3.0 for incoming freshmen) and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient continues to meet the established criteria.
